Shadow Age - Ours - 2023

Shadow Age, the post-punk band from Richmond, Virginia, has made a striking return with their new track "Ours," marking their first release since 2018. This comeback is accompanied by an artfully crafted video, directed by Cat McCarthy. Before their hiatus, Shadow Age had already established their presence with one album and two EPs, and had shared stages with notable acts like The Chameleons and Modern English.

The band's frontman, Aaron Tyree, candidly spoke about the reasons behind their break, citing personal turmoil and a period marked by significant loss. This period of introspection and reconciliation with his life and flaws eventually led him to the realization that the time to revive Shadow Age was now. The new EP features Aaron Tyree on voice and instruments, and Tony Gloom on other instruments, showcasing a refreshed lineup.

"Ours" is set to be released on cassette on December 1st, 2023, through Play Alone Records. It will be presented in its original version along with a variety of remixes. In anticipation of this release, Shadow Age has embarked on a 3-week US tour, with dates including cities like Pittsburgh, Chicago, Memphis, Dallas, and Los Angeles, among others. The tour will conclude in Richmond, VA, at Cobra Cabana on November 12th.

Shadow Age, originally founded in 2013 by Aaron Tyree, has been known for their unique sound inspired by British post-punk and eighties coldwave. Their self-titled LP, released in 2018, was a testament to their distinct style, blending powerful rhythmic bases, keyboards, and Tyree's melancholic voice. The band's music, deeply personal and reflective, is not overtly political but is rooted in the politically conscious punk and hardcore scenes.

With their latest release, Shadow Age continues to demonstrate their ability to blend traditional post-punk and shoegaze sounds with a modern twist, maintaining their relevance and appeal in the contemporary music scene.
